BOW INERTIA
I am Deonka “Didi” Ruffin, the owner and designer of Bow Inertia. As the owner and designer of Bow Inertia, I’ve had a colorful journey. I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, but my family was forced to relocate to Austin, Texas, due to Hurricane Katrina. With determination and resilience, I obtained my high school diploma and studied Business Management at Huston Tillotson University in Austin.
Bow Inertia lives up to the premise that beauty and freedom come with inclusion and overcoming obstacles despite life’s struggles. I started Bow Inertia in 2016 to express myself when I felt my voice was silenced from an abusive relationship that lasted 12 years. My designs gave me a sense of liberation and a platform to share my talent with the world.
For the past few years, Bow Inertia has been featured in various fashion shows, such as Leukemia Awareness Fashion Show (December 2017) and the Beards & Bow Ties Fashion Show (March 2018 & June 2019). Woody also wore my designs in Lazer Team 2, a RoosterTeeth Production Original Movie. Recently, Bow Inertia was featured in Andrew Jacobi Jeter’s “Through The Lens,” fashion show in the Luminaria Festival which took place in November 2022 where I created not only a full winter collection for Bow Inertia but was also commissioned by Andrew Jacobi to create his entire collection as well.
I am also an advocate for domestic violence awareness and victims’ rights with my campaign #ThisIsWhereIStart. By sharing my experience of surviving 11+ years of abuse in an abusive relationship, I strive to help others out of dangerous situations before it is too late.
Through my fashion designs and empowering message, I hope to encourage self-expression and acceptance while providing resources to those affected by domestic violence. My goal is to create fashionable pieces and be part of a movement that inspires others to take charge of their lives and build a brighter future for themselves.
I believe everyone has the right to feel safe and be proud of who they are without fear or judgment. That is why I use Bow Inertia as a platform to empower women through fashion. Along with promoting self-love, confidence, and acceptance, each design created is tailored specifically for every individual’s unique style. Through this journey, I hope to bring more awareness about domestic violence and show others how fashion can be a tool for positive change.

HOUSE OF CHELETTE
Quinashai Chelette began creating one-of-a-kind, sustainable, ready-to-use couture fashion accessories and ready-to-wear apparel, while highlighting her New Orleans culture. It helps her feel like she is contributing to creating more of a presence for New Orleans in the fashion world. Using scraps or remnants of expensive pieces of fabric left over from client designs made by her fairy fashion mother, D the Dressmaker. The remnants were too small for the Dressmaker to have any use for them, but she knew it would serve a greater purpose for Qchelette so she would save them. Qchelette’s first couture fashion accessory was a gift to a friend who was a part of a New Orleans 2nd line court in 2017; giving her the idea to start a 2nd line umbrella boutique. January 2020, she founded Quinashai Chelette the brand and decided to create a 2nd line umbrella art gallery instead, debuting at the Sampson’s Spring Fashion runway show in Brooklyn, New York.
After taking a break during the pandemic, Qchelette relaunched her art gallery the “House of Chelette” spring 2023 and entered back into the world of runway fashion; participating in showcases with TrapxArt in multiple cites before she became an emerging designer with New Orleans Fashion Week. In May, Quinashai Chelette participated in her 1st Annual Trashion: Recycle, Reuse, ReFashion Show hosted by Waste 360, Environmental Research & Education Foundation, Dress for Success & last but certainly not least, New Orleans Fashion Week (NOFW). Qchelette also participated in a NOFW hosted designer pop-up-shop during Essence Festival in the summer, before debuting her first full collection in NOFW during fall. Starting off the 2024 Spring fashion season, Qchelette is set to debut in Omaha Fashion Week (OMFW) and D.C. Fashion Week (DCFW) late February.

M. JEANNE APPAREL
I officially started my fashion journey in 2013. I have been working as a hairstylist for 30 years and there is nothing more rewarding than being able to make a difference in a person’s life by helping them feel good about themselves. So from there, I began to sew clothes, wanting to specialize in trendy styles for the heavy breast and plus size women, to give them the full package from head to toe. When you look good, you feel great! Your confidence level soars, allowing you to go do things you wouldn’t have dreamt of. To know that my designs played a part means the world and lets me know I made the right decision to follow my passion in fashion. Design is about self expression. You can be the quietest person in the room but what you’re wearing and how your hair is styled can speak for you. I want to be the voice that speaks for you when you wear my pieces.

Born and raised amidst the serene beauty of Lares, Puerto Rico. I channeled my self-expression with a profound affinity for art, dance, music, and fashion.
I embarked on a transformative journey, drawn to the realm of business studies, my path took an unforeseen turn when I discovered my true calling in the artistry of fashion design. Proceeding to an enrollment in fashion school in 2009, I immersed myself in the intricacies of design, honing my skills in illustration, pattern making, and garment construction. Guided by a legacy of seamstresses in my family, my craftsmanship blossomed, fueled by a relentless pursuit of perfection and an unwavering attention to detail. Great opportunities in the retail industry grew through a variety of experiences including working for different renowned designers like Gustavo Arango, Lisa Thon and Diana Velazquez.
Decided to move in the search for career opportunities in the fashion industry to Austin, Texas I formed a family and was blessed with a lovely daughter.
