ALVA :: UT CAPSTONE

Gown Pictured :  The Lizbeth
John Alvarado will be displaying work for his upcoming Senior Capstone Collection titled Caballo Bayo.
Caballo Bayo tells a love story of a closeted cowboy who serendipitously encounters a church one fateful day, ultimately entwining his heart with her essence. Through months of unwavering dedication and ardor, he finds himself enamored by her presence. Tragically, the church is unexpectedly engulfed in flames, leaving the cowboy ensnared within its fiery grasp. Miraculously spared by divine providence, he emerges from the ashes, yet forever mourns the ephemeral beauty of his time within the church’s embrace. This collection serves as a testament to that enduring love story, paying homage to the memory of the Late Francisco Alvarado.

ATALANTIA SWIMWEAR

Atalantia Swimwear was founded by Amy Ryan, on a mission to empower women through ultra flattering and luxurious swimwear, allowing them to no longer feel afraid of putting on a swimsuit and embracing the sun with confidence.

Our passion for empowering women to live full, free, joyful lives fuels us, and as a result of this, we give 5% of profits to a US based non profit (Catalyst Ministries) which helps female survivors of sex trafficking and provides safe houses and dedicated care with a holistic approach to healing and a new life of freedom.

Amy came up with the idea for Atalantia Swimwear when managing a swimwear boutique in Soho, NYC; She realized that most of the women who she met did not feel comfortable with the way their body looked in a swimsuit, and that they would rather avoid going to the beach than to face their fears of putting on a swimsuit. After some investigation, she found that the majority of women she talked to feel more attractive and confident when wearing a corset or their favorite lingerie versus when wearing a swimsuit. She set her focus on designing swimwear using corset and lingerie techniques that create structure on the body, and an ultra flattering silhouette. The use of flexible boning on the torso of the swimsuits and strategically placed lines and seams creates this ultra flattering optical illusion, allowing women to look and feel amazing, without sacrificing comfort.

Our swimwear is made in a women-owned factory in Bali, Indonesia. Atalantia Swimwear is 100% women-owned and operated. We use sustainable fabrics in the majority of our swimwear pieces, as well as biodegradable Cassava packaging rather than plastic.

‘Highway Glamour’
The highways most traveled. The city streets most traversed. Highway Glamour is the synthesis of conventional streetwear and high fashion blended into the city landscape. Inspired by the graffiti, architectural patterns, and nuances of those around us, this collection amplifies its surroundings. Amidst the background noise, these four looks proclaim the beauty in it all and the luxury found in the mundane. Grayscale neutrals adjacent to vivid bright colors articulate an authentic essence of Austin, Texas.

THE RECLASSIFIED INGENUE :: UT CAPSTONE

Sophie Lg is a multimedia artist and designer graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Textile and Apparel Design.
The following is the description for her newest line:
The Reclassified Ingénue transforms the once naive and innocent woman into a more mature figure through the use of classic silhouettes and themes. By fully embracing traditional notions of beauty, the ingenue seamlessly blends into societal expectations while still retaining the freedom to express herself and enjoy the benefits of social acceptance. The collection comprises four essential looks for every woman’s wardrobe: The Harlow (inspired by old Hollywood boudoir fashions), The Ronnette (a modern take on vintage motorwear complete with customized gloves and headscarf), The Josephine (a chic cocktail ensemble), and The Crawford (a powerful skirt-suit). It celebrates femininity as a form of playful self-expression, all while commenting on society’s tendency to categorize women. Through this “re-classification,” the collection cleverly subverts traditional feminine stereotypes, offering a self-aware and almost satirical perspective on conforming to societal norms through fashion.
